YAMBOREE CURBSIDE SAFETY CAMPAIGN
With the 2025 Yamboree festivities quickly approaching, The Yamboree Association is glad to announce its partnership with the Upshur County Crime Stoppers (UCCS) membership to launch a Curbside Safety Campaign.
This campaign is designed to establish and provide a higher level of safety awareness and risk prevention for all participants. We expect the cooperation of float members, family participants and the general public to adhere to CURBSIDE TRAFFIC ONLY while traveling to the parade and event access. This action will allow for smooth pedestrian traffic during parade preparation.
The Upshur County Crime Stoppers members will again provide the Official “YAM TAXI” before and after the parade. This was of great benefit to our seniors and special needs visitors to the Yamboree as well as transporting parents and children to their respective floats.
The YAM TAXI is a FREE Golf Cart service for “Pick-up and Drop off” of float participants prior to the parade. There are two designated locations for pick-up and drop-off. Location #1 – CUTX has allowed use of their parking lot for pre-parade “DROP OFF” entering on 271 and exiting on Redbud Street. NO PARKING ALLOWED AT ALL at CUTX property. Location #2 – At the UCCS headquarters at 306 Titus Street. There will be a UCCS EZ-Up tent and staff at each location for assistance. This service will also run “post parade” for the duration of the event. In order to enhance the Safety and Risk Prevention to all involved, all staff driving YAM TAXI golf carts at the event will undergo a mandatory Safety Training session before being assigned a cart.
Please note that ONLY YAM TAXI golf carts are allowed to transport individuals along the cordoned off Titus Street corridor during the parade. Drivers will be emphasizing the “CURBSIDE WALKING CAMPAIGN” while transporting individuals.
There will also be a LOST & FOUND and CHILD SAFETY Station located at the UCCS headquarters at 306 Titus Street. The Gilmer Police Department recognized this as a valuable service since a child was separated and reunited to their family during last year’s Yamboree. Various items were also recovered and returned to their owners.
With this in mind, we expect the cooperation of the public and all PARADE participants to spread the word on the CURBSIDE WALKING CAMPAIGN. This will help avoid potential pedestrian accidents and ease the YAM TAXI delivery route up and down Titus Street.
Once again thank you for the opportunity in allowing us to help in the success of this event. For questions on this matter please reach out to the Yamboree Parade Committee.
