Gilmer Head Coach Alan Metzel
The 2024-25 school year will be Coach Metzel’s 33rd year of teaching/coaching. This will be his 5th season as the Head Coach and Athletic Director here at Gilmer while having served 22 years in the district. Other districts he has taught and coached in include: Pine Tree, Union Grove and Harmony.
During his time in Gilmer he has had the honor of being a part of a staff that won 3 State Championships in football and 3 more in track. As special as the successes have been, he believes it is the relationships built along the way that mean the most to him and is what he will cherish most at the end of his career.
Metzel also serves as Pastor of Chapel In The Woods Christian Fellowship located outside of Winnsboro, TX. He took over the position when his late father passed in 2007. He serves there along with his wife of 31 years, Jana, who serves as the church’s Business Director and Minister of Music.
Alan & Jana have two children: Grace (husband Austin) of San Antonio, & Luke of Cheyenne, Wyoming
